I am looking at a new system for where I work. The problem is they want a system that will me capable of several things. First of all it will have to be capable
of running Oracle 8.0 +, as well as Oracle Designer, MS word, excel email etc. I was looing at a dual processor (XEON) but am not sure if this would be the right fit. Any advice would be appreciated.

Xeon is a good choice for Oracle 8, check out the P4 Xeon, strong performer and unmatched stability/compatability.

Dont even think about using AMD, they have too many problems for being in a professional system like the one your building. Im sure you would love to overheat and crash, lockup, spontanious reboots, stuff doesnt run correctly, and ZERO track record for SMP systems.

Definitly go with the Xeon for Oracle 8 development and you will be very happy with your machine and its performance.

Dual P3 if your on a tight budget, Xeon if you can afford the correct system.

Fugger is completely biased against AMD. I would say use which ever suits your budget. The reason AMD doesn't have a long track record is because they just recently made the MP. I have a dual setup. I have found no instability or heat issues. There have been plenty of benchmarks which show the dual 1.2mp's beating the 1.7xeons. I did not state my opinion earlier because I do not know that much about oracle. I can tell you however that you will not have performance/stability issues with an AMD setup. Many people have run their systems and have had no problems. Tyan is a stable board. It's just a little inconvient to work with due to it's size.
