And what exactly is the computer going to do?

And what'd they pay for it? (who built it?)

Like most office machines, Outlook and IE. Maybe a bit of Word too.

Mostly Adobe applications (photoshop mostly) along with IE, and office applications.

Ended up costing about $8000 from HP. The base model is the HP Workstation xw8200.

If I had a digital camera handy I would take some pretty pictures for you guys.

Hp worskatation are really nice piece, but they're overpriced as hell!

I builted a few of single XEOn myself and they are well crafted and design with quality parts, I just dont get the Extra $$$$...Nice rig anyhow!

Asus P4P800DX, P4C 2.6ghz@3.25ghz, 2X512 OCZ PC4000 3-4-4-8, MSI 6800Ultra stock, 2X30gig Raid0

yeah to bad it isnt mine.

The most expensive thing in the computer was the RAM. After they had already place the order, I was like go check the prices on crucial. It was like $500 bucks cheaper to get it but of course they was out of stock too.

Oh well its not like I paid for it anyway. If i did it definetly wouldnt be used for photshop programs.

Do you like the power adapter you need to power the LCD monitor? haha

It's HP eh? Compaq.. eh.. You'll probably end up having problems with it within 6-8 months.

What kind of Photoshop stuff is getting done, that it requires that kind of investment?

I'd like to see the ROI statement on that computer.. especially at $8,000.

Most people I know who work in Photoshop at companies and graphics places, normally work off a $2,000 computer with a lot of memory and such.

But with 6GB of RAM.. can Adobe even handle that? It has to be used for something else.. has to be.. otherwise that's over kill 3 times over.

Yeah its defenitely overkill.. they are not even gonna do video editing with it.

As for the monitor.. no power adapter, just a regular power cord. Its an hp 2335.

The pivote screen is awesome I have it turned up right so the monitor is actually taller than it is wide.

The picture in picture runs off s-video so I believe you can run a cable from your vcr, dvr or any s-video device and watch it while your working on your comp.

I never had good luck with their desktops/laptops or workstations.

The servers and high end stuff are good, it's just their desktops/laptops always gave me problems. I saw a lot of hardware problems with them for a while. Haven't touched one in 2-3 years now though.

No i don't think it will run photoshop.

If you work on it might be able to, depending on how they manage their network. Folding is hardly BS crap, it is advancement for science to help discover cures for diseases like cancer.

And it runs in the background, you set the amount of processing to be used, and can suspend it for times you need all the horsepower, and let it run at night. Mostly, you won't notice it running.
