Hey there.

I asked the same question in the M/boards section but no-one seems to think it's possible

Is it possible to link an AMD k6-500 (on it's own or with whole chipset) to an AMD athlon 1.4GHZ (own chipset) to get sort of a dual processor thing going? any way at all short of buying a dual processor support mainboard.

I seriously doubt you will find a mainboard anywhere capable of combining those two CPUs in a dual-processor, single-machine setup. The CPUs are just too different.

However, you can "link" the two together via clustering. A clustered setup is really only suitable for certain applications (generally not for Word, Excel, or gaming). In order to get the two CPUs clustered, each would have to go in a separate system, and the two would have to be networked together. Once this is done, you would have to install certain software to support clustering--Win2K Advanced Server/Datacenter Server, Linux+Beowulf, Linux+MOSIX, UnixWare/Openserver+ReliantHA, or something similar

That's why I said, "generally not for Word, Excel, Gaming, etc."

I know. Just the thought of someone doing that was really funny.

Yes its possible, The PCI crossbar switch has been completed by different companies now with great sucess. the processors do not have to be the same speed and it works with x86 architecture.

http://www.bdl.com/projects.html

Its called a PCI cross bar switch. phillips is producing a "hot" PCI crossbar switch for us now. meaning it can be plugged in/added onto while system is powered up.

We have used crossbar switches for years. =P

"The system automaticly detects the additional CPU's, memory, and disk storage. no muss no fuss"

What makes the corssbar switch so nice is that we can run 1 OS (turbolinux and IRIX) across all the porcessors.

Bad part about it for you is the price, you cannot afford it. buy a new machine and quit dreaming.

I believe I answered this question when it was orginally asked in the other forums in the same manner as Kelledin did.

And FUGGER, like you pointed out, I don't think anyone wants to go through the hassle and cost of that whole process to gain barely anything. Why the hell then did you even post it? Another chance for you to pimp your own company, or just improve your ego?

 Have you ever tried cooking an egg on your HSF? Tasty.

Man you know, I feel bad for fugger, his image on this forum is so tainted he gets hell for even posting on topic stuff. I have decided never to mess with him again, and I am sorry for any trouble I have given you in the past FUGGER, deserved or not.

Well, *this is not the other forum*, and I did not see your post. even tho Im sure I would have gotten a laugh from your stupidity. please post link.

I posted to the fact that yes its possible, and even posted links proving my point.

Most of the people here, like yourself are cluessless to this technology. The guy asked if it was possible, yes it is at a high price.

After digging back 20 pages on the mobo forum, I found your most enlightening post.

"Not possible.

At least, not by any means I know of. Just think of how impossible it is; regulating two varying Northbridge's and Southbridges, different RAM, different HD's, different everything.

Not possible."

Have a nice day =)

You have caused me no trouble, my scores were genuine. granted my video card was overclocked. but I did state that it was overclocked after I double checked my settings.

Im happily in the 9k's now and will not resort to LODbias adjustments or running 1 test at a time and saving results to get a 10k. that is what is being done to get top scores atm.

Im not sure if you saw my pics of the Gainward GF3 mod, I took it home friday to keep =) so nice to finally have a hand picked GF3 golden sample.

The closest thing I can think of to that would be a cluster type setup, with everything distributed.

Conveniently leaving out my comments, FUGGER?

And besides, I am referring to the average user, not those with thousand's of dollars to spend on an inefficient and costly system.

I also find amusing how someone who holds and refers to themself with a degree of professionalism uses comments such as, and I quote:

Dude you are so owned.

Raystonn, if you read this, I feel sorry for you if people like this actually exist in your field or work.

FUGGER, you really still dont get the point of that entire post("my 3dmark2001 score", check it out 10 pages back or so in the graphics forum anyone who dosent know what I am talking about) do you, sad.

::shakes head::
