I am currently a little torn and a little overwhelmed by the choices out there for the time being. I am hoping that the capable community here can help me narrow down my choices, so thanks to anyone who responds!

I work in a small office, and we are attempting to go paperless. We have clients fill out hundreds of forms per year, and spend a great deal of time and money printing them out, signing them, then scanning them to file. We have recently been informed that these forms can be signed digitally, so I am looking for either a tablet or a slate for this.

The way I see it, the tablets would be the same as our current laptops with added styluses: semi-portable, highly functional, but ultimately they are expensive, and are still kind of a pain to haul around. The slate format on the other hand seems to give a lower price, similar performance (provided you can dock it), and MUCH more convenient to use digital ink on or even to lookup information on the go without whipping out an entire laptop.

The problem is, the device we settle on needs to work as a desktop as well. In either case, a docking station of some kind will be needed, as speakers, monitor, and keyboard/mouse are going to stay at a desk while the machine itself will be moved around.

Ultimately, we need:
-a compatible docking station with the device (output of at least 3 USB, ethernet, and a monitor)
-does NOT need to have a keyboard while away from the docking station...
-digital signing capability
-battery life of at least 4 hours
-quick access to files is imperative

Not released yet, but it could function as a desktop (BlueTooth keyboard/mouse) and a tablet device.

Another option. Have you considered tablets that fold into their keyboards (link above)? Would you still require a docking station?

More options. Check which one suits your fancy!
