I've got a MCX370 on my KG7-Raid. It fits just fine, and I'm pretty sure that the MCX462 is the same size.

ummm thats incorrect.
the MCX-370 is all aluminium, and measures
60mm x 60mm with a 60mm fan on top.

the MCX462 however is its much larger brother,
78mm x 78mm with a 80mm fan! (and it weights 2 -3 times more as well!)

Wow, that's a big difference. I knew it was copper and not aluminium, but I didn't realize there was a size difference. Thanks for pointing that out.

Holy crud..thats one big hunk a HSF :)

oh yeah...
at a swap meet ive seen both side by side.
the 462 is an absolute monster!
and the new version of it looks even more effective...
bloody heavy though, 760g i believe with fan.

and people wonder why that mc462 and the alpha get temps 5C lower than anything else around...
:)

That 760 grams is over 2 times the recommended weight. Give it a little bump and it'll rip your socket off the board.

Good thing it mounts directly to the motherboard eh??

Yes, that's a very good thing. Another good point to remember. I guess you just better be real careful not to slip and smash the core...or anything else for that matter.

I have one, and installing it is a breeze, because you dont have these frigging tight clips to deal with. You just gently position it on the die, and tighten the four screws. Completely idiot proof, no way to "slip".

As mentioned above, it is bolted directly to your MB. on the Swiftech site there is a rather unbelievable crash test: they threw a system from the roof of a 1 story building on concrete.. several times.. the HSF was still properly attached (I guess everyting else was wasted). Have a look here:

That's cool, I didn't know they had the Swiftech MCX462-A. Maybe I'll grab that instead of the Alpha when I upgrade at the end of the year.

Edit: On second thought, maybe I wont, unless I can get one without a fan.

whats wrong with the fan??? sure its a delta, but u can get a rheostat.

and i believe they will be seeling them without a fan like the alpha too.

yep... much nicer system than silly clips.
only way you could kill your cpu is if you just dropped in ontop the core or compeltely screwed in one screw at a time (dumbass thing to do)

given the average human intelligence im sure someone has done something stupid like that.
but for anybody with an iq above room temp it should be a piece of cake.

whats the difference between the MCX462 and MC462 ? Is it the fan ? (or lack of fan) ?

i did a post last week all about the diff's... but since i figure BOTH of us are too lazy to search here are the diffrences:

MC-462A. sanyo delki fan standard, some 260 smooth bore pins of .125" diameter. fan screws directly into copper core.

MCX-462 focused flow 68cfm delta as standard. option rheostat (3900rpm - 4900rpm). pins made helical, like the mcx-370 = more surface area and great air turbulence. pin diameter decreased to 0.093" and thus pin count increased to inexcess of 350 if i remember correctly and they say total surface area is increased 50%!. fan also screws into 4 brackets now, not the soft copper base.

as the mc-462A was approx equivalent to the alpha pal8045, the new one should blow both out the water :)

OEMs selling "High End"PCs with integrated video will be forced into Q3tournaments using a TNT2M64!
