Well, I know not everyone on here is Canadian but there are quite a few of us so I don't think this thread will be a complete waste.

Hockey is back... and us Calgarians are loving it. The Calgary Flames are selling Game packs today at 2:00pm they have had 2,500 requests and only have 600 packs available. They sold 1,300 seasons ticket packs last NHL season... and this season they have already sold the maximum 1,500 and the season is still two months away. Hockey fans are going crazy to get these things... its pretty insane. The newspaper today predicted that the season would be completely sold out before the season even starts.

It's about time the game came back... I missed it.

McCarty left the Wings and went somewhere else.. 2 years, 1.8 million. Not really a lot of money considering the dangers of the sport and physical stress, but it's time for some good old hockey.

Now if they would just do away with basketball...

Wonder if the fights will still be as bad? Isnt that why they banned hockey in the first place? I might be wrong.

Still, there is nothing like two grown men beating the crap out of each other bare nuckle style.

The players went on strike for a year that's why there was no hockey last year.

No it didn't.

I know it did.. I was saying McCarty left for 1.8 million for 2 years.. because of the caps in place and how it works. It's a small amount of money compared to other sports that are getting 8 million for 2 years.

The NHL league has it's players spread out all over the place to work within the caps and income. It's going to be one hell of a great season for rookies and rising stars. This might actually make hockey a lot more popular now.

This American team that you speak of winning the stanley cup was comprised of 3 American players (only 1 got any significant ice time) and 12 Canadian players. There was 4 times the amount of Canadian players than American players on that team (they had more canadians than the Canadian team they beat).

So I really don't think you want to turn this into a Canada vs. USA debate, when it comes to hockey there is no questions.

Sorry riser, I meant to direct that post to Bob369 who thought that hockey missed a season cause of the fighting.

Go date P4man or something, bye!

Reply to Starfishy

Players didn't go on strike - the owners didn't give them a chance to. The players were locked out by the owners.

Although, in the end, there was still no hockey last year - I guess it just changes who to blame.

You can't seriously blame owners can you? I agree with you that it was a lockout. The owners had told the players they couldn't afford it anymore and they needed to take a pay cut. I remember Wayne Gretzky saying "Economically, this was a better year for they Coyotes than last season was." Referring to the fact that the Coyotes were actually losing money because they were paying the players too much, they made more money without even playing a game, or rather, they lost less money.

I guess that just says the Canadians would rather represent American than live in bodunk Canada :)

The Cup sits in Florida.. regardless. :)

Why is it in America, Canadian Bacon is just sliced ham, does not resemble or even taste like bacon?

Because we think so highly of them. :)

My friend was explaining to me.. she works in a high class restaurant. They have slang for select people that come in.

Originally they would call black people Canadians.. so they decided they were going to start calling them 'moon crickets' because people were catching on to their slang.

I had to promptly explain their slang, wasn't technically slang.

Anyhow.. Canadians. Just an odd bunch.

Just like we call French Fries.. french.. They're American.

We'd all like to fry a French person though eh?

Even if "Canadian Bacon" isn't "Bacon" at least we are nice. Not saying that Americans aren't nice, its just that... actually that is what I am saying.

I am just kidding by the way... just because the rest of the world conciders Americans an arrogant un-diciplined peolpe doesn't mean that I do.

Oh man... I know I am going to hear it for this post. This is not good.

No, I said the rest of the world did. It would most certainly not be very fair for a Canadian to charge Americans of being un-diciplined, afterall when you look at our populations we are almost as obese/capita as you are.

Go date P4man or something, bye!

Not blaming the owners. Just stating a fact. The players were unwilling to take the pay cuts, and (as I said previously) the owners locked them out before they could strike.

No blame there, just reciting history.

Mike.

PS: I don't know where people think canadian bacon is just sliced ham - it's not, it's a rolled ham loaf, sliced...

I like Canadians so I give them a hard time.

I was sitting in Windsor, which is American by the way, and in my drunken state I decided to yell out "F***ing Americans get out!"

I don't think I saw a single Canadian that night.. I had to let everyone know that I was American.. and I had to show 2 people my ID so they'd leave me alone.. haha.

So Windsor.. it's all American there..

And the strip clubs are amazing.. Wow.

I did get kicked out of the Casino by some 18 year old scrawny kid.. who just happened to have the incredible hulk standing behind me.. To that kid: You [-peep-]. I wasn't showing signs of intoxication. I only wanted to put nickels in the slot machine.

haha.

Canada is cool.. lots of hotties up there.. now I want to go back up there.

I just like giving them a hard time. :)

In my first year of uni in Oz I met a terrific natured Canadian by the name of Pete Bozanis who was a mad fan of hockey. He showed me a few games and told me about 'dropping the gloves'.

I was hooked. Its a good game, dude. Dont get much coverage my way though.

Go Calgary, hey?

Thank god for you being a human search engine... we would never get all this "color" added to our threads if you weren't. Don't let the Likes of RobD get you down, you are doing alright in my books. I take the good with the bad. Some of your posts aren't the best, but then we get little bits like this.

Interesting how you single me out, isn't it? I mean after all, I'm the one who's ranted and raved about Rich's posts, aren't I? Answer that, smart arse.

Check your bloody facts next time.

I'm sorry RobD it would have been more appropriate to single tomsmart out I guess. Afterall you are correct, he was the person who created a thread designed at stopping Rich from posting these. Or perhaps even more correct would have been to not point out any individual at all.

The reason behind pointing to you specifically was that I had just read a post where you had done it. When I thought of who it was that was talking of RichPLS doing this your name popped into my mind... I was lazy to not do any further research into the subject.

I am a little surprised to see that you are upset about being singled out for this... as you have in fact done this. I thought you would be happy to admit that you dislike the vast majority of RichPLSs posts.

My point is that rather than say "several people objected to some of Rich's posts", in a non-offensive manner I might add, you singled one person out. I objected, but it was part of a collective objection.

I wasn't offended by this you having a dig, moreso the fact that you didn't check all the facts. But, you've addressed this now, fair play, so all's good.

My brother and I got into a fight last night at shinny hockey. It was great, been a long time since the two of us played on the same team. He threw a punch at his best friend then two of his teamates got involved... we all hit eachother around for a minute or two, then all went for beers. Don't know what it is about the game, but we always get uber competitive. Always friends again after though
