wait a minute! aren't the socket-478 processors that are out today based on the northwood core??? if they are, then why is everyone "waiting" for northwood?

Hey Baby, I'll install YOUR RAM, if you boot my Hard drive!

nope.
northwood is different.
current 423 AND 478 p4's are all based on the same 0.18 micron technology.

northwood is 0.13 micron, and will hopefully support some new hardware such as more cache and a better FPU.
dont expect to see northwood till Q1 next year.

OEMs selling "High End"PCs with integrated video will be forced into Q3tournaments using a TNT2M64!

Northwood is Socket 478 alone. Socket 423 PIV's are only going up to 2GHz, then being abondoned.

 Have you ever tried cooking an egg on your HSF? Tasty.

will there be a huge performance difference between the current one and northwood? because if there is, then i'd rather wait.

There is supposed to be a huge improvement to the Northwood, to the tune of 7 to 15% better performance. More hopefull supporters claim 20%, but I think that's wishfull thinking. Then again, who knows? The northwood should be extrememly overclockable.

Back to you Tom...
