I have a Dell Dimension 4100 at home. I have 1 stick of pc133 128 MB
and 1 stick of PC 133 256 mb, for a total of 384.

I recently came into some pc133 512mb from a old server here at work.

PC133r-333-542-B2

Will this memory work in my dell if I pull both old memory sticks and
install only one of the 512's ? (since the max mem is 512).

Also if I do, which slot do I plug it into (the slot near the chipset
or the one further away from it ?)

Finally how can I tell if either of the 512 chips are good ? Can I go
to best buy and have them test them for me ?

TIA

Craig

sorry, the dimension 4100 only accepts modules that are at most 256mb each,
for a system total of 512mb. if you are running windows 98 then 384mb is
already more memory than the operating system knows what to do with... if
you are running xp then upgrading from 384mb to 512mb may actually be
noticeable but not remarkable.

It's also likely that server memory is ECC and registered, incompatible with the
Intel 815 chipset in the 4100... Ben Myers
