ECS K7s5a and amd 1700+ wont run reliably when cpu freq is set at 133mhz, it has to be set at 100 to not lockup computer after some use. I can set dram at 133 and has no effect on lockups. I'm using xp, latest bios and latest drivers.

I think its a heat issue but my computer is nothing extra ordinary for heat and it doesnt take much to lock it up. some use IE and outlook.
I put on my alpha pal6035 and 7500rpm globalwin fan and after a lockup I'm at around 50c... I think the case is restrictive but nothign special. I'm almost ready to go intel.

I'd guess it's a power issue. Check your power consumption. Also, run a program like Motherboard Monitor and log your temps and power constantly, that will help you determine what the part is.

I used motherboard monitor and temps didnt go over the set alarms of 70c.. but i have no idea what lockup temps are. I suspect I hit 55c max.

Ok so if thats not it, its my antec, non amd certified power supply. Everyone says enermax is the best so i'll get one of those if you guys think its the problem.

edit- in case you read my other post (can you tell im frustrated with this yet?), i have my alpha 6035 hs back on with the dangerous fan that cut my finger something ugly with the arctic silver back on.
Edited by kinney on 11/18/01 08:54 PM.

Have it log every 10 seconds, and monitor the Power, that is the best way to know. Make sure you don't have it start on bootup, but start it manualy, so you can check the logs after a crash. Antec power supplies are pretty good, but Enermax is top of the line. I have a 400W Antec, and it works quite well.

Heres a log after a lockup.. it doesnt show anything irregular to me. The video locks including mouse and sound continues on as regular. My video card is not o/c'd... it doesnt look like my PS is crap.. help!
I tried slowing memory speed settings in teh bios like normal and slow instead of ultra or fast in DRAM timing thinking that or anything might help but it didnt affect it at all. The only thing that changes anything is CPU frequency at 100 instead of 133. Should I take this CPU back?
(maybe get an intel...)

I resnt your comment about going to Intel.....

Is your Ram Rated for 2100 DDR or 1600 DDR ???

Hmm......

Are you kidding?? I would NEVER go back to intel after those years of buying overpriced/slow processors. I have thought about a p4 2k but intel doesnt need anymore support they have plenty. I also resent my moment of anger, all shame of the amd community is upon my head.

Anyway, I have some 2100ddr coming monday but right now some old pc133 is in it. I was wondering if that might be it also.
