I have allready fried my AMD XP 1700 CPU once and managed to get a new one.
So what I now have is a new CPU, a one-time-used Alpha Pal heat sink and arctic silver thermal compound.
How do I mount the CPU without causing overheat?
- Can I use the heat sink a second time, or is it "used"?
- Any special threatment?
- How much thermal compound (arctic silver)?
- What are the instructions, i've heard all sorts of versions.
Please help!

if there another Pad on the cpu or heatstink clean them off. Then stick a thin layer of Artic Silver on the cpu. Then put the heatstink on. And make sure the Fan is plug in.

If you dont feel like doing this or worrie about smoking another cpu. Take it to a shop to have them put the cpu on.

Also on the Artic silver tube there a website go to it read How to on the website.

Why shouldn't you use the heatsink again? I've installed my Alpha PAL several times on two different CPU's and they're still working.
The best intructions for using Arctic Silver can be found on there webpage: http://www.arcticsilver.com
Also check your Motherboard manual, maybe they got something about how to install a heatsink properly.
