Forum Windows XP : General Discussion Lockup during XP Installation help

I used to have faulty memory and recently bought a new 256meg 2100ddr stick. I've tried to fresh install xp over 98 and get as far as the 'now starting up windows' point during installation. After that the monitor just goes black and stops setup there. I've tried different cd's with the same result. I've also taken out my network and sound card, reset the BIOS and flashed it. Have no idea why it would do that. Any ideas?

Run memtest86 if you haven't already. The program and instructions are here. Let it run overnight and if it comes up with any errors it's not good.
