computer pricing trends

not sure where to post this, but...

i was thinking to wait until after the holidays to purchase in hopes that there would be a price drop.

i'm in the market for a new
-processor :: athlon tbird or maybe xp 1500
-ram stickz. :: 512mb
-mobo :: gigabyte or soyo dragon+
-hd :: ibm deskstar 60gig 7200


anybody aware of trends that i should be aware of?

They get cheaper as time goes by and new stuff comes out.

Yeup. If you wait 10 years or so, it'll be dirt cheap.

Well, to give you short-term perspective...

Intel is doing massive price cuts in January. AMD is sure to follow. (Certain people may gripe at me that "AMD pricing is not reactionary," but it is. FWIW, so is Intel pricing.)

Other stuff will get cheaper in the short term, except for...

...memory.

Just a few weeks ago, I could get high-quality Corsair 512MB PC2100 DIMMs for $80. They've almost doubled in price since then. Memory has been selling for a song up until now (mostly due to overstock), but that appears to be coming to an end. Get it while it's hot...
