"Experience up to 30% performance increase with Discreet and Intel optimizations!"

yes that's right! before 3dmax was blind to Intel's SSE instructions now it sees the light!

reading the docs I didn't see any mention of SSE2 so I guess this is only a SSE enabled release(not sure)

well if its proper SSE then it should work equally as well with the XP... unless they stuff the SSE chip identification up.

shame its got no SSE2 thou

That´s odd.
I tested a version that had a "P3-folder", all you had to do was to replace a file with this one, then you would get SSE support.
And this is 3D Studio Version 3.0.
Hmmm...

don't hold me to this, it's from dictionary.com:
1. The full pause at the end of a spoken sentence.
2. A punctuation mark ( . ) indicating a full stop, placed at the end of declarative sentences and other statements thought to be complete, and after many abbreviations.

I wasn't sure if it might actually be half a : or perhaps some indication of the end of the interger part and the beginning of the decimal part, as read from left to right. At first I thought it might be colony of bacteria on my screen, but no amount of scrubbing would remove it. You've cleared it all up for me now though. Thanks.

I think we just about covered it, but in my case it actually meant that the forum would not accept a blank post, and so I had to pu something in just to put the chance of title I wanted

"This Performance Pack is the result of a collaboration between Discreet and Intel to provide optimizations for based systems running 3ds max 4.2. Performance increases on other platforms, including AMD, are likely, but not guaranteed." - discreet
