I LOOOVE Lightwave, but the fact is, it´s open gl performance is unstable like there is no tommorrow. There´s no telling what pc will run LW next version or even next patched version fastest! It would be more realistic to use 3dsmax and maya for benchmarkíng, i think you will find that almost every other 3d app behaves more like max/maya then LW, i am sad to say, LW being my favorite app.
That´s why i would suggest Tomshardware to do some more testing in this area.
And i think you´ll find the Athlons crushing the P4´s.
For instance; friends Athlon systems is way faster in 3Dsmax 3 and 4 at LOWER clock speeds then my P4.
I think it´s important to let the public get realistic 3d performance benchmarks, please do not use LW for this purpose

that's always been a drawback to LW i've never liked. specially on the mac. don't get me wrong, the render engine is great, but it's just to slow, no matter what you're running it on. i'd personally like to see cinema4d used for benchmarks, that app has come a long way.

hi,

what version of LW do you have? you should contact NEWTEK support with dongle# and license. imo it sounds like your videocard, it is also know that many illegal warez versions are unstable and unreliable.

also, 3dmax3 and 4 are not taking advantage of SSE or SSE2 so that's why there's a difference.

note: Discreet has just patched 3dmax4.2 to take adantange of Intel's SSE, they are probably working on SSE2 support if they have not done so already.

Nah sorry m8 i have Maya 4 Max 4.2 and LW 7b non warez versions @ work, and freelancing friends have LW and Max latest versions non warez one´s. LW is not that unstable, that´s not the issue here.
LW performance quite simply vary to much with each version to be used as a benchmark app on a site as this.
Imagine customers refering to benchmarks on tomshardware for 3d benchmarks expecting same results in Max and Maya as in LW (LW now this version that is)!
I think it´s quite outrageous.

I think every benchmark THG used varied with each and every patch or upgrade, this is normal.

I must admit I don't know what you mean by "vary to much" do you mean that LW degrades? what exactly do you mean?

also, what videocards do you use?

He means LightWave performance is rather inconsistent--far more so than with any other 3D rendering app. I don't agree or disagree with him, as I don't use LightWave.
