PCMCIA Wireless card vs. mini-PCI wireless? which one is better for range for a 802.11g card. the laptop i'm getting uses built-in antenna's (two of 'em) for the internal wireless mini-pci card.

but i heard that pcmcia cards are sometimes better than internal....

better... hmm.

I would say the mini-PCI one. It is built in, so no hassle of people removing it or anything, your notebook has two antennae (obviously on the left and right hand sides of the lcd), which should be fine for the range (better I'm sure than the PCMCIA card), and plus with the mini-PCI you get full support from your notebook manufacturer.

Nevertheless, the difference between the two in terms of performance will most likely be negligable.

unless you hook up an external antennae to your pcmcia card the minipci card will kick it's ass as far as performance goes but if you're unsure order the minipci card in the notebook and test pcmcia vrs minipci that way you'll be guarenteed the best.

i have a dlink 54g one, using it inside the truck and between the trucks, on the truck stop parking lots, ranges up to 300 meters easily (repeat - inside the metal cab)

At home (with 54g router) copying files around 15000mbts, thats + - 1.5MB, for wireless i think it kicks some butties.

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...

of cuz mini-pci.I am using it.and I tested the PCMCIA.
but I think the range is more depended on your AP.
you can DIY your APz anttenna or set one for it.
