Hello "helpdesk"! :)
I have a Compaq Presario 1800 Laptop with win2000.
Until recently everything worked grate, and in the Power management window there WAS "Hibernation" option.
Now it's gone with no apparent reason for it. I already checked everything I could: the computer IS ACPI compatible, and there is even a "hiberfil.sys" file in the C:\ root.
Checked the registry - all seems ok, but the option itself simply disappeared. Vanished. I tried to reinstall (update) windows, even selected the "ACPI" option with the "F5" menu... Didn't work. I REALLY need my laptop to hibernate, and for now reinstalling the OS is kinda unacceptable... I thought of changing the "computer" driver in the device manager to "standard PC", reboot, and then change it back to ACPI. At least it sounds logical, but I'm afraid that windows might not start up correctly after such brute tweaking...
Is there any way of reinstalling the ACPI
Any advice would be highly appreciated :)

Did you install a new driver recently? I found this interesting post on usenet:
=========================================================
<pre>Check Control Panel | Power Options | Hibernate, and make sure the "Enable
hibernate support" checkbox is checked. If this checkbox is not available,
then your computer no longer supports it. Hibernation is notoriously
finicky: if there is the slightest problem with any driver, it will refuse
to offer it as an option. You may also need to check the power management
settings in your CMOS.
</pre><p><i>It's always the one thing you never suspected.</i>

haven't installed any new drivers, even tried to reinstall the video adapter... didn't help.
the CMOS on the laptop is kinda strange, almost no options available, only the time-date, and the boot options tabs are there. Tried updating the BIOS - didn't work ether...

No, can't think of anything...
No new apps, no drivers. Nothing...
