No Audio device on computer

Hello,
My computer say I have no audio device. I used to have it but I may have cleaned out my programs and deleted it. What do I do now?

How can I recover the sound program? Where will I find it?

Where are they? I don't have CD or any knowledge how to do this. This was my son's Ases notebook that runs on Windows XP and I am a Luddite at best, with this kind of thing. If I removed them from the computer (and I think I did) are they recoverable? How? Help!!
