Windows Explorer doesn\'t work

Just got this computer about two weeks ago. My old XP Pro finally crashed and burned. I miss that machine. Win 7 is crap as far as I am concerned. Problem - Windows Explorer absolutely does not work. I try to copy and paste between drives or even on the same drive. Program starts out great and gets down to near the end and reads 5 seconds remaining. That is the end of the copy and paste. Furthermore, it is an ordeal to shut the damn program off. Sometimes I even have to pull the plug on the machine (and yes I know that is not good). I thought for a bit that some throttling program was the culprit but I am getting nowhere. Any ideas?

windows 7 works just fine. something is wrong with your machine.
