I have 2 AMD Athlon Thunderbird Processors.

1000 MHz 266FSB and
1200 MHZ 200FSB

My Mobo is an ECS K7VZA Rev3.x w/ KT133A Chipset and supports 266 fsb and all
Thunderbird Processors. (supports either chip)

My question is, which one of these chips would be the better one to use?

Should I go for the speed of the 1200 Mhz w/200 fsb or the 266 fsb Technology
of the slower 1000 MHz chip?

Is there that much difference in performance between the 266 fsb and the 200 fsb?

Your thoughts please?

Dunno about your 1 gigger, but I have one of those 1.2/200's. Runs smooth at 1.333 Mhz (133FSBx10x multiplier). I'm using stock HSF and get 47C with a burn-in utility (2 case fans + PSU fan)

Wabbit season! Duck season! AMD season! INTEL season!
Hmmmph--whatever...

put your Multiplier to 10.5 and set your FSB to 133MHz......increase your voltage to 1.80 and if that doesnt work put it to max 1.85 ........now u have a 1.4GHz T-Bird =)

BTW, tell us which core stepping both chips are.....

They are located on the die of the processor....its the second line (shoudl be three lines of random garbel to you if you dont know what im talkign about....

Check and see if it says:
AXIA
AYHJA
etc.

if your 1000MHz T-Bird has the latter....i recomd using that oen and overclockign the hell out of it... =)

ANyways, have fun......post back with details...

I think the 1200/100 is faster 1000/133.With 33% increase in FSB versus 20% increase in cpu clock, 20% increase in cpu clock has better overall gain in performance.

get the 1200/100 and overclock it to 1600/133!
No need to mess up with unlocking the CPU, just increase the FSB! With a 1000/133 your FSB is already to high and the multiplier is locked. Make sure you get a good cooler and a spacious case for good ventilation.

On performance front, it depends on your application, a 1000/133 would be faster than 1200/100 in general, but the CPU intensive apps would make not much difference. If these are at par then the next parameter comes is the cost. go for the cheaper one.

I would suggest you to go with the 1200/100 and oc it to 1600/133. even if you dont, you are fine do have a CPU with a potential of 1600 which you may exploit later.

Thanks everybody for the quick replies.

Since I'm not interested in overclocking this machine, I guess I will probably go
with the 1000 w/266fsb. It sounds like it doesn't make much difference either way.

The 1200 w/200fsb is for sale unless I change my mind again, then the other will
be for sale. Both chips are brand New and have been checked out and are NOT DOA.

If interested email me at aaaheavy@hovyo.com
