I currently have a soyo 6vca mobo with 256 sdram(pc133) with a PII 300 and want to upgrade. Considering performance vs. cost what would you recommend. I was considering:
#1 PIII 1ghz using an adapter (~$200)
#2 PIV 278 pin in an 845 board using my SDRAM (~$300)
#3 PIV in an 850 board with RDRAM (~$450)
#4 Athlon XP 1700 ( with this option I would need mobo suggestions as I am not familiar with chipsets ect.(~$300)
(my estimated prices are what I think I would have to spend to make it work, including a new psu or case.)

Go with a newer revision ECS K7S5A Motherboard....

In this case I'd have to totaly NOT recomend getting a Pentium 3...AS witht he AMD Athlon XP 1700+ and the ECS Board you have an upgrade path...the P3 is dead and Intel is phasing it out and will no longer be supported....
Socket A which the AMD Duron's and Athlon's Use will be here to stay for QUITE some time.......

So anyways it's either buy the Athlon XP and get TEH BEST performance for less, or spend a LOT more and get the PIV Solution which is fine, its just up to you really......
Personalyl I recommend the AMD Athlon XP 1600+ (yes 1600+ instead of 1700+) because its more for your money, and you can later Overclock it to 1900+ or 2000+ possibly......
