I read this in the inquirer and heres the link to the japanese website: http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/akiba/hotline/20011208/etc_athlongreen.html.

It looks just like the P3. So is this new green packaging better then the brown packaging? Maybe lower temps.

i bought the 1600+ XP and my is brown ... i just bought it a week ago.

not that the color of my chip means anything. just want to point out that it hasn't been out that long.

I've been around here and there. The green organic AXP hasn't been out that long.

AMD Shifts to Green Organic Packaging
"Following up on a story today at Mike Magee’s the inquirer, we contacted AMD to find out more about the new green organic Athlon XP packages that are showing up in Japan. AMD spokesman Damon Muzny informed us that all AMD organic packages will be green by the first half of next year. Although there are no functional or cost differences with this switch, Muzny suggested that the move is based on aesthetics: green is AMD’s color."

I guess, i answered my own question.

well a green color makes the chip look more christmassy. Now if only they gave it a red core! That would look like a christmas ornament. Cos after you burn up the thing thats pretty much what it'll be used for. :) lol sorry cheap shot lol.

why would any company color anything brown? it looks like a fuct up turd an alien plopped!

yep... they could have hadded some red die,
turning the brown chip into a nice brick red colour.
whack a black anodised HSF on top and get a red mobo... bingo, colour coordination!
