I have a rig with 2 Seagate drives. I was running Win2k Pro on one drive (C:) and using the second as a backup storage (D:). Both drives were NTFS. I just did a clean install of WinXP Pro on the C drive and left D alone. Now I can read everything off of D fine, but I can't write to it! It keeps on telling me access is denied. Drive D was set up in Win2k to only be accessible to the administrator group. I am logged into XP as an administrator, of course. Now I am not comfortable with XP yet; I'm still looking around for all the settings and options. It seems like some sort of sharing/rights management problem but I am not sure. Can anyone help me out there? Thanks in advance.

Why are you trying to hide your D drive from people? Is that where you are hiding all of your Porn from your Girfriend/Wife/Mom?

did you "take ownership" - from the help file on win2k:

===========================================================

<pre>To take ownership of a file or folder

Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the file or folder you want to take ownership of.
Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.

Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
Click the new owner, and then click OK. Notes

To open Windows Explorer, click Start, point to Programs,
point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
You can change the owner of all subcontainers and objects
within the tree by selecting the Replace owner on
subcontainers and objects check box.

You can transfer ownership two ways:
The current owner can grant the Take ownership permission
to others, allowing those users to take ownership at any time.

An administrator can take ownership of any file on the
computer. However, the administrator cannot transfer
ownership to others. This restriction keeps the
administrator accountable.

jlanka:

I can't seem to do that. When I click on the D: drive in Explorer and go to properties there are only tabs for general, tools, hardware, sharing, and quota. There is no advanced tab. I need to know how to make the whold disk drive writable.

oh, you have to turn off simple file sharing. Then it will
work just like windows 2000.

My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options ->
View -> Scroll to the Bottom -> Uncheck "Use Simple File Sharing.

Then proceed as indicated above.
