Quite impressive stats!

The chipmaker (AMD), citing a new quarterly report from Dataquest on PC chip market share for the third quarter, said Wednesday that it has more than doubled its market share in certain geographic and market segments.

The chipmaker's share of the Japanese consumer PC market jumped to 54 percent from 24 percent in 2000. AMD increased its market share in Western Europe in the quarter to 49 percent from 25 percent in 2000, according to the company.

The funny thing is zdnet used to be like Intel's PR outlet. The attitude certainly changed quite a bit lately. However, the real bottom line is the days of Intel charging us $900 for its top of the line desktop PC chips are probably gone forever. Good news indeed.

This is very old news. We know that they had great success in 2000, but right now 2001 is almost over and the big question is what happened this year.
