With the development of 1T-SRAM (memory that is supposed to be as fast as SRAM, but almost as cheap as DRAM) that is used as cache in the GameCube’s GPU, and Matrix’s multi-layer fabrication method, do you think we’re getting to the stage when very large on-die caches will replace external RAM?
I can just imagine a graphics chip or CPU with 64MB of on-die cache.

That would be very nice to see. Of course, we'd probably have a transitional period of going back to slot processors :(

Woaw! A CPU for the PC with 64 MB cache, that's more memory then my video card has, I wanna have them if they come. If they place about 256 MB on it you almost wouldn't need some extra RAM  .

My case has so many fans that it hovers above the ground  .

Perhaps using Intel’s new packaging to put it all on the same chip, without it being on-die? That way we could have large off-die level 3 caches without needing slots.
