Hi, I have had Mandrake 9 on a seperate hard drive for a few months now and I have come up with a few questions. First, when I tell it to shut down it goes through all the motions and even says "power down" but doesn't turn off. Windows2k doesn't seem to have a problem there.

Second, I heard there is a way to run windows in linux using an emulator like WINE. However all I can seem to find is how to run certain programs in WINE and not the entire OS. Any help here would be great.

I thought I had more questions than that, but I guess I don't. Thank you for your help guys.

I don't think WINE can actually run a windows OS. It's meant for applications.

The program you're looking for is called VMWare. http://www.vmware.com

You get a free 30 day trial. It's a pretty cool program actually, and very easy to set up.

Or get a free alternative, <A HREF="http://"bochs.sourceforge.net/"" target="_new">Bochs.

Re the power-off thing, I think it's either a BIOS APM setting, or a need to recompile the kernel with the "use Real Mode APM" turned on (or off :-). Probably not worth the hassle though...

Or not. VMWare seems a lot faster, and way more stable.
