Are there any signal boosters that can be applied to
the Xbox wireless adapter? Dorm has wireless router one
floor up in hall wall and signal is very low. Not able to
move xbox wireless adapter closer.

Nope, can't do that. The MN-740 has external and internal antenna for
signal balance.
