cpu temp

I recently bought a AMD XP1600+ and a ASUS A7V133 MB. I also bought a ordinady cpu fan that is supposed to be ok up to XP1900+ cpu's ... have a chassis fan extra to the PSU fan....

The "on-board" temperature measuring device reports the cpu to be running at 55C/131F... isn't this too much?

I have checked that the cpu fan is mounted correctly and have contact with the cpu. If i run without the extra chassis fan the temperature increase an extra 5C.... this is when WinXP is idling with no software running.

seems a bit high, what are you measuring it with ? asus probe is well known for high readings.

Between 40-50 C is fine. How many case fans do you have, I recommend one in the bottom front blowing in and one in the upper rear blowing out. But if your room temp is very high (around 30 C) it's difficult to get lower temps.

My case has so many fans that it hovers above the ground  .
