A couple questions to help give you a specific answer. What exactly are you trying to accomplish in terms of decoding and which program would you rather use?

I don't care what others think, I'd like to install k-lite codec(already downloaded it) to replace it I just prefer it over this decoder that comes with win 7

You don't need to uninstall anything to use k-lite. Just install the pack and it will use its codecs in the default setting. If you have Windows 7 64 bit, install both the 32 and 64 bit k-lite packs.

Disabling the native Windows codec for MPEG-2 would require editing the registry. K-lite does not recommend that in their FAQ.
