Window 7 idle harddisk noise?

when my pc is idle (not sleep mode) a while, it start a loading sound like the one you ge loading a app/game or scanning. but i make sure i turn virus auto scan off. so why do i still get loading sound? what is making the noise?

Run a hard drive test in DOS... HIRENS BOOT CD etc, it sounds like a failing hard drive...

You could be experiencing what is called "Spindle Drag" occurring in the HDD itself.

I would go with Brett's recommendation and run some diagnostics on the drive and then back up whatever you don't want to lose as it sounds like the drive is on it's way out.

i dont think any problem with my hard-drive, it is new(1 year) and the noise is normal- same noise you get when accessing Harddrive on any pc.

also i forgot to mention, as soon as i even move the mouse or click a botton the noise stop. and start again when a set amount of time has passed. i think some program is doing some kind of idle processing or scanning of sort just dont know what.
