I'm running Windows XP right now. I just bought a Lite-On 16x DVD player, and I'm wondering how I can rip DVDs. I looked at the How-to guide here at THG, about MPEG-4, but I was unsuccessful with FlasKMPEG 0.594. I don't think the guide explained well enough how to do this. Can someone explain? Thanks...
Technically, it is now illegal to rip DVDs. DeCSS (the source code that breaks the DVD encryption) has been outlawed. Hmm...at least the distribution of it has been. Don't know about the use of it.
That said, you need a program like Clad to rip the DVD into .VOB files on your hard drive.
What about this guide here?

hmmmm about half way down the page lol this site deals with ALL things video not just codecs.
Someone in the Anandtech forums suggested NeoDivx as a newbie ripper. Anybody use that one? I'm planning on trying it tonight...
