help an ideot put together a pc

hellow all, last year i got a pc to edit my videos,it dident work,spent more n more $$lost a whole year at it,gave up and melted my credit cards on another pc + aditional hardwhere i have to figure out how to add to it,
i have bin reading toms hardwhere guids and most recently the how too's prt 1 and 2 + some more that looked helpfull,
however i still have questions:
my new pc is a compaq w4000 work station
p4 2.4ghz, 512mb ddr ecc sdram, 18 gig scsi hard drive,
i also sought out and purchesd aditional stuff to finish it out as a dedicated video editing thingy for my realy small atv video buisness
to wit:
1 realy slow but cheep and the right color too bmi dvd burner (dvd-r-rw cd-r-rw)
1 36 gig scsi hard drive
1 120 gig ide hard drive
a nividea g force mx440 w/tv out
and also pinicle deluxe7 w/ av/dv card(price was rite)
i guess most of the asembly i can do however im stuck on mixing the scsi and ide hard drives,
took a peek inside the case and saw markings on the ribbons so it wont be too bad, i can get the scsi into a bay and hook it up and probly address it with a jumper, but theres the ide hard drive, i see thers an unused (#1) ide port on mother board and the secondary(#2)has a ribbon goin to the present play only dvd cd drive, i'll swich it out with the burner to save a bay and ide address but:
will the 120 gig work on (#2)ide? what jumper positions for the burner and hard drive if they shair the (#2)ide?
im asuming since the boot drive is the 18 gig scsi hard drive that my (#1) ide is not to be used, am i wrong? can i still use it?
if so then can someone give me the resapie for ide #'s and jumper positions ect.. that will compleet this based on above components,
after i put it together then i'l be looking for help geting it to work, heh heh
i have acumulated several video editing programs,
id like to get them all to work on the pc, but i know they tend not to play well together, i have sean one disconect another to conect itself, the i try to use the first one again it has to try to relink, sometimes loose things,
isent xp saposed to make a special place ect.. for older programs or just programs that like to seaze drivers and add too that special place all the drivers the little darling wants or needs, iff so wouldent the diferent video programs id like to try to learn work ok without the nesesaty of relinking each time i open em?
any help here would be apretiated,
and although it might sound like i know or understand this stuff be forwarnd im not realy up on much computer programing or anything, i just need a tool for editing and i need it this bad, yes im looking forward and include dvd and vcd's in my future videos

ACTUALY I THOUGHT THE WORK STATION WAS A GOOD SYSTEM,
IT SHOULD BE MORE THAN I NEED FOR VIDEO EDITING,

1 UPDATE THOUGH, I HAVE DISCOVERED THE GRAPHICS CARD I GOT WAS 8X, AND MY WORK STATIONS AGP SLOT SUPORTS 4X,
AN EASY MISTAKE THOUGH BECAUSE THERE ARE 4X AND 8X VERTIONS OF SAME CARD WITH SAME NAME AND NOT ANY INDICATERS AS TO WETHER IT'S ONE OR THE OTHER IN SOME ADVERTISING,
I JUST NEED TO ORDER AGAIN BUT MORE CAIRFULY,
