P4 1.8 DDR Vs Athlon 1800+ DDR. Which is faster?

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any review that has done a comparision between these 2 CPUs setups?

I believe the Athlon 1800+ with DDR to be faster but would like to know how much faster it is compared to a P4 1.8 Gig DDR coupled with the new P4B by ASUS.

im sure a review was done somewhere...
but i think its easiest to look at the last big review tom did.

besides... what is your definition of faster?
the p4 is faster at some things... xp on others.
OVERALL the XP1800+ is better performing than the p4 1800, especially if u use the KT266A or Nforce Chipset.
and that P4B... thats a 845-D isnt it?
generally the 845-D laggs other modern DDR chipsets by a significant margin. (P4X266 & 266A, Sis 645)

The 1800+ is faster than a 2ghz p4, in all but a few benchmarks.(mostly mpeg encoding and quake 3 time demo).

Anandtech, has a good review with benchmarks on both of them.

using properly coded P4 aware apps a P4 1.8 will be faster. slow code slows down a P4 1.8 fyi.

Apparently, Q3A, Prime95, and some parts of LightWave are the only "properly coded P4 aware" apps. I suppose Maya, 3DSMax, Photoshop, and all the other SSE2-optimized apps aren't "properly coded P4 aware?"

I suppose that since Intel can't be arsed to design a worthwhile CPU, all developers should bow down to SSE2 and make only "properly coded P4 aware" apps?

Tell you what, let's see you write some "properly coded P4 aware" apps that are actually worth using. Then maybe you'll have the right to go around blaming software developers for the P4's crappy performance.
