I thought the tests they did were just in line with the other tests they did earlier, and they give you some feel for the real world performance of each chip.
Intel is the speed king again, for the moment, but there is more to a computer than raw speed. It's still priced higher than it needs to be. AMD should be lowering their prices soon too.

You have to wonder about a man who hires writers who say that the KT266A stomped the nForce but the fastest P4 barely beets the fastest Athlon. Both comparisons showed similarly small margins. Makes you wonder why they like VIA so much.
crashman, did you actually go back and compare %'s? if i remember correctly, the kt266a had much higher of a performance increase than nForce than the northwood does an athlon xp. just wondering if my memory serves me right or not.
As I recall the nForce actually won a few of the benchmarks, and the few it lost were by only a few percent.
I just checked, it lost in Quake III by less than 2%, UT by 2% and 10%, won Lame MP3 and Flask by less than 1%, fell in the middle of the field for Sysmark and SUSE, won WinAce, tied Specview. They called that a stomping, but said that the P4 barely passed the XP. Hmm, I would have called them both close. In fact I think the motherboard shootout was a little closer.
We can always count on Nvidia soon releasing a DetonatorXP-like driver set for the Nforce, and which most likely will boost it and show its true power. Otherwise I dunno why it doesn't live up to the expected performance...

The other day I heard an explosion from the other side of town.... It was a 486 booting up...
You people are absolutly amazing... I ask a simple question and get nothing but moronic babble in return. Of course, I guess I shouldn't expect much from people who actually hang out at THG. The reason I have said nothing else is because you people have said nothing to answer the original question of this post... it really is a simple question. Of course, with the slow-ass servers running this site (they must be running on Intel CPU's) I can understand why it might take a while for someone to actually reply with an educated response so I guess I will have to continue to wait.
hey...
did anyone see that a new Nforce board is commin out???
No integrated video, and hopefully, raid as well.
now thats a board i wanna get my hands on... think of the advantages
1. no integrated video 2. no soundblaster audio 3. no via!
4. bandwidth
lol
The only loyalties i have is to Performance, Cost
Reliability and the Truth.
1. There was no real question. THG is of course not on the Intel payroll. Notice how all the ads currently on the site (unless I missed one) are for AMD hardware.
2. You are obviously closed-minded and started this thread merely for an argument. Therefore, you get no intelligent responses. Did you really expect any?
3. You created this account merely to make this post. If we knew who you were and/or you had a reputation on this site already, we could overlook #2.
At least you came back, that's more than can be said for most people who start threads like this.
