Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a memory stick for my Sony Clie PEG-TJ37 PDA,but
there're a few things I'd like to understand.

According to a review in Brighthand
(http://www.brighthand.com/article/Sony_Clie_TJ37_Review), "Sony provides a
useful pair of apps that allow you to mount a Memory Stick in your Clie as
a removable drive on your PC."

According to the Clie manual, "Memory Stick media enable you to exchange
files/data between your CLIE handheld and a computer. To exchange
files/data via memory Stick media, you can use CLIE Files, supplied with
your CLIE handheld."

1) How does this work? Do I have to get a special adaptor to read the
memory stick on my PC? Will the PC just read it from the PDA in its cradle?

2) How do I download the files from the memory stick to my PC?

- - -

The manual states that "When using a Memory Stick Duo media with your Clie
handheld, make sure you use a Memory Stick Duo adaptor."

3) Will I have some kind of adaptor sticking out of my PDA if I use this
kind of memory? (Definitely a nonstarter for me.)

Thanks,

Dave

The program to read files from memory stick on PC is built into your
Clie. Connect your Clie to your PC with the hotsync cable and start
"data import" from the launcher on your Clie. The memory stick will show
up as a new drive on your PC.

I don't know the answer to your other ?. I use a memory stick pro.

You can also use a card reader. This is easier and faster, and not
expensive, and works the same way otherwise.

You have to have both ends. There's a piece that comes on the CD with the
Clie that you have to install on the PC.

A Memory Stick Pro is from this viewpoint no different from any other. One
needs a special adapter that attaches to the PC somehow (might be USB or
PCCard or attach in some other way) and one inserts the card which then
appears as a disk on the PC (assuming the PC is running a recent version of
Windows--with other operating systems it might be different).

AFAIK, the Memory stick Duo adapter makes the Duo that same size as the
regular Memory stick. So, it won't stick out any more than normal!
