My question is which Java is better, and if there is any side effect to either?

<font color=red>Windows XP SP1a does not include or install the Microsoft VM, which provides support for running Java programs.</font color=red>

If you wish to use <b>Sun Java</b> and would like to remove microsoft's <b>Java VM,</b> here's how.

Click start --> run --> and type this in:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection java.inf,UnInstall

You will then get a prompt to uninstall, choose yes, and choose to reboot.

Then go and delete the java folder in \windows. After that go to \windows\inf\ and delete java.inf and java.pnf Next step is to search for javavm.dll and delete it.

MS Java is now completely off the system, install Sun Java and enjoy!

I probably won’t sweat it, although I am contemplating going back to a dual boot. If I can’t get 9x on after the fact I may be asking myself the very same question as the original poster.

If you use IE, you should rather stick wth the <A HREF="http://forums.btvillarin.com/index.php?act=ST&f=39&t=325" target="_new">Microsoft VM</A>...but if you use another, going without Microsoft VM would be better, cuz it would be that much less on your system.

I'm not sure of the security issues with Sun Java, but then again, we're not too sure about anything.
