The Asus A7V-E is a board for the 200Fsb CPUs,so for you to get your 1400Mhz at 266 you needed to overclock you FSB ,your problem is probably right there.

If that's the case, set your FSB back to 100Mhz (200DDR), then unlock your multiplier (pencil trick). Then change it from 10.5 to 14.

That's what you get for buying your computer based on <font color=orange>color</font color=orange>.

Something does'nt add up here. A recent cpu + a recent mobo and he HAS to do that damn pencil trick to get things up and running properly? no no no Someone give this guy a strait and "supported" configuration for his sys.

It's not a recent mobo. Asus <b><A HREF="http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socketa/a7v-e/overview.htm" target="_new"><font color=blue>A7V-E</A></font color=blue></b> is <font color=red><i>VIA KT133</font color=red></i> chipset that only support 100MHz DDR Front side Bus (200MHz). I don't think it even supports 1400MHz CPU either.
<i><b><font color=green>Spec Summary</font color=green>

. 3x DIMM support for 1.5GB PC133/PC100/VCM133 SDRAM</i></b>

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

Dont think so...A7V-E is NOT a DDR board and is NOT for XP processors....asking for a stable AXP on this mobo is like asking the pope the stay awake for a hole day, possible but far fetch...

The system wont work properly and that is final...let him get another mobo, A7V-E is old and obsolete as far as AXP is concern.

Well, ok, I stand corrected. Don't recall him mentionning XP anywhere, but still the fact remains as you say he has a cpu/mobo mistmatch, right. Makes sense to ditch the mobo then and find a good home for that 1.4 Athlon.

Your right it's not an XP sorry...i got use to call the XP1600+ as a 1,4g when a sell them...but still 1.4/266 and A7V-E are not a good match (exacly the same reasons as state before)

Also if you're using pc100 ram you will have problems trying to run at faster fsb speeds.
