i just installed the volcano7 and have the following results: -
2 case fan (in-out) (although not convincing me.)
vcore 1.65v
room temp 28C
computer idle - normal load 44-45C
very heavy load 47C
while with the cooler master DP5-6I31C
2 case fan (in-out)
vcore 1.65v
room temp 28C
computer idle - normal load 46C
very heavy load 52C
by the way, if i changed the vcore to 1.75 the temp will increase 2c (in both fans) but in the V7 is someitmes 1c
cooler master noises is less than V7.
no thermal compound was applied to the heatsink, since it already has a thermal compound on the heatsink.
the system never hungs or locks and it is very stable, but i want to keep my temp under heavy load less than 44, because i expect the room temp to be sometimes about 30-32c
took off the side panel but it did not effect alot (only 2c for V7) but for cooler master it effected about 4-5c (i think this means the V7 is doing the job perfectly).
anyone use the same cooler? what degrees you are getting? are mine high for the volcano7? how i can decrease the temp

Asked and answered, no locking, do not worry about temp at all.

The only problem with the Volcano 7 is that it measures ambient temp, not the CPU temp. I saw a site with a mod (using a dremel) to cut a channel for the temp sensor to sit right next to the copper core. I can dig it up again if you like.
But Mat is right. If your system isn't hanging, you don't need to worry about temps.

fatburger.......do you mean that the temp which V7 posts is the case temp and not cpu temp? or it mix them together and shows the result?
if this is true, then maybe my cpu temp is going higher than 50c but it posts 43c.
however, please let me know what is the site that modificating this.

Again, if it dosent lock up, it shouldnt be an issue, why does everyone run around afraid of their temps when they have no signs of heat issues>?

No, the fan adjust speed according to the temperature sensor on the fan, but it doesn't take the CPU temperature, it use the case temperature. Your probe report the right cpu temperature, they're not related sensors. I just cut mine off the fan and let it run at full speed all the time.

thanks andrew, this what i needed to know.
but since you are using the same fan, can you post your results? and let me know what room temp u r in and how many case fans

If you look on your Volcano 7, you'll see a green thermal probe. That's where it's reading the temp from. It would be better to read the probe in your socket, but that'd be much to difficult for Thermaltake to accomplish.

It measures ambient temp for a reason. It's preset to vary speed according to this temp, not the cpu temp. Modifying it would mess up the settings.
Room temp between 25-28C
CPU temp 39C from 43C
weird because the heatsink is damn cold to the touch, but then again you can't trust the asus probe much. also I didn't use thermal paste, only that weird pad it came with.
Mobo temp 26C from 35C
this is why I don't trust the probe, according to it my V-7 cool the motherboard better than the cpu
Got 2 case fans, front bottom sucking in, and rear top pushing out air. PSU got a highspeed fan too so it suck air out of the case good, removable tray got a small fan too, but it's such a midget it doesn't do much. (vid card fan, chipset fan, 7 fans running non-stop)
P.S. I removed the temp sensor from the V-7 and it's running at 4963 to 5013 Rpm. Yes it's a tad loud, but I didn't have a silent case to start with. It's about as loud as my old full size case was with the 4 Bulldog HS fans. If you're a light sleeper then don't mod it, I sleep well so don't care.

Which programs are you running ?
My P4 goes from 38°C idle to 61°C using Prime95's torture test, but I'm also using a Vcore of 2.20V where the standard setting is 1.75V.

Since it's cooling the CPU, not the case, it would make more sense to measure the CPU.

copen.....i run these progrmas together, burnin test (at 100% load for 15 minutes) also had photoshop (filtering 225mb pic), corel draw (filtering), 5 internet pages, outlook express, all office programs (files loaded), winace (compressing 500mb of exe file)......all of them runing at the same time so i got 52c (room temp 28c).......will get 50c when the room temp is 23-25c, i am going to change my case fans to get better results which i hope i will decrease the results 1-2c

I found that the best way to heat up a CPU is to run one of the following specialized programs: Toast, CPUBurn or Prime95.
It's actually not better to run a lot of different applications at the same time, because every time an application that is "nice" towards the CPU is scheduled, the temperature drops. It's better to whip the CPU constantly with only one of the above programs running at the time.
When I use Prime95, the CPU temperature rises a whopping 22°C (from 39°C to 61°C) during 15 minutes. The main reason for this is that the power-supply fan an case fans are not able to refresh the air quickly enough. The air inside the case is goes from 28°C to about 52°C.
Try out Prime95 which can be found on this homepage:

Run winace and winzip and have both compress a large file simulataniously, the rest of that crap is pointless.(cpu cycles arent wasted on a background instance of ie, and if some are used, very little.
2 compression programs would tax the system heavily.(if you dont want to use toast that is)

mati, i just finished running winace and winzip together compressing 500mb and the hgihest temp i got was 48c (room temp 27c)

What about Prime95, CPUBurn or Toast for 15 minutes ?

I want to correct myself: Either try Prime95's torture test or run CPUBurn or Toast until the temperatures have been stable for 5 minutes.

copen..........i installed prime95 and run it on my AMX TB 1000 for 1 hour witout any errors or warnings, it passed 3 self tests (8k, 10k and 896k) and it was running 796k test and finished 13 loop then i closed it because i felt bored of waiting........the maximi temp i got was 48C and this stcuk without going higher (of course for one hour), my case was closed and the room temp is about 25C.
i am going to test it on the AXP 1700+ within this week and i will post the results........however i am very glad with the temp scores.
by the way, please let me know if there is any extra setting in the options i have to make if i want to get the temp goes higher........in the options/cpu, the cpu field was on Athlon and the speed 1000 and the ram section was at 8........let me know if i need to modify anything else to get heavier load on the cpu........by the way my cpu voltage is 1.6 and the AMD on supports to 1.85 and if i go to that voltage then i will get maybe 53 or 54C as a highest temp.........my cpu temp now 42C (only one internet page is open)

copen, i finally run prime95 on my xp 1700+ and the temp stuck on 47c after 35 minutes (i run the program 45 minutes and it was idle 42c) (then i stopped it (i was leaving)), the room temp was 24-25c
