I have had a Handspring Visor Platinum for a few years and last summer added
a Sony Clie PEG-TJ37 to my collection. Because I have a great Targus
Stowaway keyboard for the Visor and the resale value on this hardware is
next to nothing, I've kept it to use as a really mini-laptop when I don't
want the hassle of hauling my actual laptop, not to mention that the Visor
has the convenience of using common batteries so that battery life is not a
problem. Most of my usage, however, is on the Clie (sensibly enough).
When I got the Clie, I installed the new Palm software over top the old
software and both devices worked fine. I also made a new installation on my
laptop of the Clie software and the Visor works fine, but I'm using a serial
hotsync cable on this setup.
On my main PC, which I just built a few weeks ago, I installed the Clie
software. The Clie hotsyncs fine. However, when I try to hotsync the Visor
via its USB cradle, the Install Hardware wizard comes up. It recognizes the
device as a Handspring Visor, but nothing I do will persuade Windows that
there is already software installed to run the Visor.
I suspect I have to uninstall the Clie Palm software, install the Handspring
Palm software, hotsync the Visor, install the Clie software, and resync the
Clie, but this is a pain. I'm wondering if there is an easier way.
I could probably get rid of the USB cradle and use a serial one (I have a
couple) but USB is so much faster, I'd prefer to do it this way.
Is there an easier way than the uninstall/reinstall/reinstall option?
