I have an Asus CUV4X that is the 370 pin config, with a PIII-800. I was wondering if it is worth it to try and get a newer celeron 1.1Ghz or higher instead of replacing the mobo and CPU. I would like to get the most use i can out of the board, but the prices on the PIII's that fit my board are ludicrous. for the price of a PIII 1.2Ghz i could get a AMD XP1700+ and mobo.

is it worth the $72 to go from a PIII-800 to a Celeron 1.1Ghz or should i just save my pennies and get an AMD down the line...

I don't think the 1.1ghz will work on your MOBO. Check with Asus, see is there any bios upgrade.
IMO, I don't think upgradeing from P3 800 to C1.1 will have lots of improvement. Just same some money and upgrade to AMD later.

A Celeron 1100 would be the fastest you could use, and it's not much faster than the PIII 800 in games. IF you want more performance, try overclocking your 800.

The Tualatin Celeron (1200) won't work on your board.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

1.1GHz is Coppermine, it's above that that's Tualatin.

1.20GHz and above, all celerons are tualatin256, and 950MHz and below all celerons are coppermine128. Make sure you get the right part!

There's your answer, the powerleap celeron combo is 169(if I remember correctly) you can still get a motherboard and a cpu which will perform as fast as the 1.2 celly for the same amount of money. Also you will still have your current mobo and cpu to sell.
