I have a Abit KT-7 RAID mobo and have had a AMD Thunderbird 1000MHz cpu on it with no problems. But now I have bought a 1300MHz Thunderbird cpu and it heats up well over 60 deg.
What am I doing wrong? Is my Molex cooler not good enough?
your temps are a bit high....anyways....if you dont have any case fans...you should add a couple.
one case fan at the bottom of the case sucking in air...and another at the back of the case (right below the power supply) blowing out air...that should reduce your temps by a few degrees.
As Matisaro posted, are you getting lockups? I have a 1200 T-bird that always runs way hot (according to MBM5). I went nuts trying to figure it out. Got an SK-6 hsf, new case, fans, Arctic silver II, etc. I was at the end of my rope, when I ran across a post that gave a link to a burn in utility called "Toast". My temp climbed to and sat in the 65C range (+/- 1C due to room temp variations). I finally got bored and turned off Toast after a couple of hours. During that time, I did not get one lock up, blue screen, or errors. I finally decided that the temp readings weren't accurate, and that I should stop pulling my hair out over it.
The moral of my little story?: Don't stress out on temps unless you're getting lock ups or BSOD's!
Good luck!

with the cooler you have, i dont know how good the molex cooler is, but a 1300 DOES produce more heat than a 1000. certain coolers are only rated up to a certain processor level.
getting a slightly better one is always an option if your still worried.
The lack of thermal protection on Athlon's is cunning way to stop morons from using AMD.
