Need help picking a laptop cooler

Hey guys.

I was looking to invest in a laptop cooler for my 15.4'' SAGER NP8662 Laptop. I wanted to purchase a Zalman since they seem to get very good reviews but they all seem to be in the $50-70 range. I am looking to spend around $30-40 (including shipping) and was looking at a few different models. I will be using this almost exclusively on a desk.

1) This is the first I was looking at: Thermaltake Massive23 LX 230MM Fan

The only thing I was worried about with this one was the airflow, only 54.6 CFM. There were mixed reviews with this model, some loved it and some hated it. A lot of people complained about the poor airflow and stated this cooler was not strong enough to move a piece of notebook paper when set on top of the cooler and turned on.

2) Another model I was looking at was: Rosewill RNA 7700

This one has nearly double the airflow at 100 CFM. The only problem with this is that there is a large gap in between the wrist rest and the laptop which may be uncomfortable, and the whole unit itself is quite bulky, which isn't much of a problem if its only being used on a desk.

3) Also the CoolerMaster Notepal U2/U3

At only $15 for the U2 and just under $30 for the U3 The price is decent and the construction looks fairly solid, but I have heard "some" negative reviews that the fans were poor quality and didn't move a lot of air.

4) Cooler Master Notepal X2 Notebook Cooler R9-NBC-4WAK-GP

...It's only 10 Bucks! But does it work? (Update: Price went from $9.99 to $22.99 in 1-2 days... wth?)

If you guys have any other suggestions for coolers that will fit within my price range that would be great. I would also appreciate reviews on ones I have posted, Thanks!

More about need picking laptop cooler
  1. I got my brother this laptop cooler for his ASUS gaming laptop and does a pretty decent job of cooling it:
Targus Lap Chill Mat AWE55US (Black with Gray)
  2. Do you happen to have any numbers for idle/load with/without the cooler, tacobravo?
  3. U3 all the way!
  4. Do you think the U3 is better than the massive23 LX?

I haven't tried the massive23... but the U3 is my personal favorite. The fans aren't meant to push alot of air, they run on a USB port for crying out loud! The manufacturer says that even fans that push air won't help the computer's temps unless they are positioned beneath the vents.
  6. There are a lot of reviews for the U3 saying the fans stop working after only weeks of receiving the unit. And people also said the rubber on the stand was not sufficient enough to hold up their laptops without having it slowly slide down
  7. right, the rubber grips only properly grip the latop if it's form-factor is 15.6 or above... I haven't actually tried the rest, so do some research first!
