Should I save some money and get the Celeron? The P III cost about 1/3 more?

My mainboard can have only FCPGA coppermines (currently a Celeron 667MHz).

the PIII will be faster, the 66mhz difference doesn't touch the memory speed difference, not even taking the extra L2 on the PIII into account.
What kind of RAM do you have?
Unless you're running PC133, that will need to be upgraded as well.

I was just wondering this, because the Celeron costs 111€ and the P III 161€.

Celeron above 900 MHz have 100 MHz front bus.

800 and up are on the 100mhz fsb.
that brings up another point, regardless of which processor is used, the RAM will need to be upgrade unless PC100/133 is already used.

yea!!
how about rather than change one single chip we build an entirely new computer!! thats a great idea!!!

The PIII 933 is much faster than the Celeron 1GHz. In fact it's about the same speed as the Celeron 1.2GHz Tualatin, which has 256k cache.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

I would wait a little while longer then upgrade my motherboard and get a new cpu because if you get the celeron of p3 you will have to upgrade soon anyway.

why? a 933 p3 can run most software just fine, games included. As long as you have a fast enough video card and enough ram a system of that level could be viable for at least another year.

I've thought of getting a completely new system, but I think I really don't need one as I'm not really into gaming anymore.

I'm not sure if I update at all, but I'd like the system to be a little faster (maybe twice as fast).

Maybe I'll get a P III when they're cheaper. I guess I can live with the 667 :)

Reply to samwyse

heh a 667 is probably fine if you aren't into gaming. Unless you're upgrading for games, there isn't much of a point in doing it unless it's substantial. Just look at my system specs :)
