HP vs Samung - College laptop

I'm looking into buying a new laptop to get me through graduating from college (I'm a junior so that's only 2 more years). I don't play games or anything of that nature, so the main usage would just be for note taking and the everyday type of web browsing. Also, since it's for school 14 in is as large as I'm willing to go.

Which of these would you recommend?:

Do you listen to any music off a laptop? The HP Beats Audio is supposed to imrpove the experience.

Samsung. HP laptops are near the bottom as far as relieablitiy goes. Many people just bought some that were on sale and I've heard nothing but overheating and various other problems with them. I saw someone in another thread say that HP has 2 class action law suits against them currently.

I have bass speakers to plug in so music isn't so much of an issue..

Reliability and battery length is a HUGE make it or break it for me haha

I really want a macbook pro but it's not something I can afford at the moment
