CPU grease

Does anyone know the best way to clean off thermal paste from an Athlon CPU? I think I might have put too much on. It ran off the die down on to the actual silicon. Will that affect chips performance? Thanks.

No, it'll be fine. Just use water or rubbing alcohol and something that won't leave lint, like a cloth towel or toothbrush.
