Just curious: if I bought a 1.0 Ghz Ahtlon (not C) and set the multiplier to 8 and the fsb to 133, would it work? I heard that Athlons weren't locked if you changed the multiplier lower. My mobo supports 133, so I was just wondering if the cpu was only rated for 100, would it work at 133? Thanks.

If it's unlocked then it will work at 7.5*133 which equals 1GHz.

You need an unlocked processor to change the multiplier up OR down. Most Athlon 200's were not unlocked.

Why would you want to buy an Athlon 200 if your board supports 133 mhz FSB? The Athlon 1.0 266 is cheaper.

If you do want to run an Athlon 200 at 133mhz most do work but some do not. At least that's the impression I got.

So then, for my Epox EP 8KTA+ (VIA KT-133) that has a 133Mhz cpu jumper setting, I should get a 266FSB Athlon(are they not then called TB) and with my PC-133 am set to fully use this board to max capacity. From manual it is rated to 1.1Ghz max. Is this right?
Thanks

Sorry, but the KT133 chipset was proven not to work at 133mhz. That is why it was replaced by the KT133A chipset (that and the addition of ATA/100).

The best you can do is run memory at 133 mhz, HST clock + PCI clock (higher if you want to do a little overclocking). Some KT133 boards would overclock as high as 120mhz FSB but generally not much above 110. Be warned at this bus speed if you are using the HST clock + PCI clock option your memory would be running at 147 mhz. You need good memory to do this.

There is a slight, EVER SO SLIGHT, chance that at 100/200 fsb chip will not run at 133/266 @ the same clock.

Very slim.

Ok then, if I understand, I can set that "CPU Host Clock Select" jumper to 133Mhz, use PC133Mhz ram and use a Athlon of 200FSB class(that is the older variety of Atlons) and all will be well with my KT-133 based mobo. Have I got that right?
Thanks

No, I'm afraid not. With the KT133 chipset you should set the bus jumper to 100mhz. In your BIOS you set the memory clock to Host Clock + PCI clock, 100 mhz + 33mhz.
