I have some old slot 1 intels p2 and p3 cpus. Since the most intensive thing i do is play dvds on the computer, these will do fine. However, I only have 1 mobo for slot 1s and am not too thrilled about it.
What were the best slot 1 mobos? Which chipset should get/avoid?
I really like my Soyo SY-6BA+III. Most sites rated it as a higher quality/more stable board than the Abit BX6 rev. 2, and it overclocks quite nicely, have mine at 150FSB with a PIII at 1125MHz. $39 at justdeals.com.
The Soyo SY-6BA+IV is a similar board with an extra IDE controller (UDAM66), available for $10 more at the same site.
I have an Epox BX3 Rev .5 that is also a very good board, and the only reason I quit using it is because it's limited to 133MHz FSB.
thanks. one question. I've got a p3 coppermine at 667 mhz (133 fsb). The soyo is supposed to support 100 fsb, but can be OC to 133. Does this mean that this board is compatible with 133 fsb P3s?
Yes, I have my PIII 1000EB (133MHz FSB) running at 1125 (150FSB) on this board. All you need is PC133 SDRAM and a decent video card. With your processor you can get up to 750MHz/150FSB with good memory (PC150 or PC133 that can handle it) and a good video card.
