Have a 900mhz athlon.

Changed from a Jetway mobo to an Asus Mobo yesterday and my Cpu Temp has risen by 10 degrees to 51-53 degrees.

Whats the maximum temp for my athlon T-Bird 900mhz?

Thanx

It sounds like you need to check your HSF installation (and application of HS compound) unless you overclocked the chip. At room temps your chip should run ~45 degrees.

I thought a thought, but the thought I thought wasn't the thought I thought I had thought.

I actually asked a similar question a few months ago'but can't find the thread.

I'm sure guys were talking about going up to the 80's being the limit?

Thanx

90 is the stated max for Athlons, but this is die internal temperature. Most (99%) mobos get their temp externally on the underside. The difference can be as much as 20 degrees or more!

the temp probe under the socket is notoriously innaccurate. i wouldnt worry about it.

when i changed from an asus a7v133 to an iwill kk266 the cpu temp went down 8C...
same case, same ventilation, same HSF, same amount of thermal paste.

and your computer will lockup or freeze long before u will reach the point of thermal distruction.

if its not freezing. YOUR OK.

P.S. asus motherboards are known to report temperatures warmer than other brands.

Overclocked athlon 1200C @ 8.5 x 166FSB + PC2700 = GOOD!
Edited by LHGPooBaa on 02/19/02 08:41 PM.

with a avg good heatsink a maximal 55°C/57°C temp can be reach at cpu high load.

if you know you don't know, the way could be more easy.

If you're using Asus Probe to monitor temp, you should know it usually gives incorrect reading. Try Motherboard Monitor. Otherwise, recheck your HSF's intallation.

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

53C is not too high, but changing the mobo should not increase the temp unless you OC it. You got this reading from bios or the Asus Probe, the reading from Asus Probe is about 8 - 10 degree more.
