Get a Zalman, ditch their screwy bracket fan. Then do a case mod, cut a hole in your side panel to add a 120mm fan and have it blowing cold air from outside the case down onto the radiator fins of the zalman.

It's not what they tell you, its what they don't tell you!

Get a Volcano 7, and mod it to vary it's speed based on CPU temp rather than case temp. I don't have the link for the mod, but I'll post it as soon as I find it again.

By the way, why did you get an Athlon system if you already have dual Tullys?

I was thinking about something like this myself, but maybe with a bit of ducting to help ensure efficiency/effectiveness.

If you think about it the zalman is probably about the best heatsink out there. not many can run without any fan...So if you add a good fan setup to it it should be great.

Rcf, I too got tired of the thermoengines noise, when I put a nice 80mm sunon on it(with adapter) I HAD TO UNDERCLOCK MY TBIRD TO RUN!!.(needed it to be quiet, living room pc)

I got tired of it, so I bought an alphapal8045, and that thing is GODLY. With the same quiet sunon 80mm fan my temps are 104F AT LOAD, on a 1.65ghz axp. Maybe one day I will unlock it and put her to 1800mhz+ muhahahaha.

RCF I've been meaning to ask you, why has your grammar and syntax lately been crappy? I've known you for a while and I remember you write in a very understandable way, but now you say "Sound" instead of "Should" and some other posts with weird words, I'm wondering what's wrong here....
You haven't been talking to Juin too much now have you??? No wait not even Juin mixes words like that....

Problem is, if you mod it, don't you usually look for more silence? You're looking for more noise if you mod it though...

But better performance.
5000RPM on an 80mm fan wouldn't be unbearable, I wouldn't think. It's the high-pitched whine on a 7000RPM 60mm fan that's unbearable.

It's a trade-off...it's either cooler or quietier.

Maybe it would be better if there was a switch to switch between using the temp. probe or manually adjusting for the fan speed.

What about ye olde Noise Control Silverado <A HREF="http://www.noisecontrol.de/" target="_new">http://www.noisecontrol.de/</A>? It is even available in the US.(<A HREF="http://www.plycon.com/silrado.htm" target="_new">http://www.plycon.com/silrado.htm</A>) From what I've heard, it's nice and quiet. Expensive, but quiet.

Yeah, its been outmatched cooling wise for about 8 months, dosent go over 1.2ghz very well at all.

Stock cools better and is as quiet most of the time.

I know it isn't the best cooler. I mean just look at it's size and weight compared to some of the others. Heh heh. :) Still, the review that THG did on coolers put it up there fairly high in thermally. Within the top 25% of all the coolers that they tested I believe, though it has been ages since I saw that review. (And no doubt this also means that far better coolers have come out since.) Still, you would think that it wasn't all that bad. Besides, I thought that the latest Athlons were supposed to run less hot than previous ones. Are they really running <i>that</i> hot these days?

They run 20% cooler, but they also run much faster in clockspeed, the xp2000+ is about as hot as a 1.33tbird give or take. The silverado sucks at past 1.2ghz, so no, the silverado is a bit underpowered and overpriced today.
