I just read here @ tom's hardware that they could only clock the Xp 2000+ @ 1866 MHz and then I checked overclockers.com, in the CPU database it says that someone could clock it @ 2500 MHz. If this is true, wouldn't it kick P4's ass???

Willamette...yes. Northwood...not sure.

Northwood is very overclockable. Easily to 2.6ghz with RDRam or 3 ghz with DDR according to the sites I have read.

XP at 2.5ghz is probably a better performing than Pentium at 3hz, but I have to wonder at the veracity of the claim, or at least wonder how they got it to 2.5ghz. Finally, is it really 2.5ghz OR is the 2500 the PR rating.

it would definitely kick P4's @$$, only if it were true!

dont take that table too seriously, it even has some underclocked entried at the end. and anybody could post any damn thing there without proof. believe it only when you see it or is from a reliable source. treat the table only as a pointer to estimate how far you can overclock your piece.

An axp @1866mhz would out perform a northwood @2.4ghz or so.

Tom's test only shows that whole range of XPs may go till 1866 GHz only, thats approx XP2300+ performance.

you know the binning business Intel and AMD do, probabely 1866 GHz is the upper limit for all XP range, maybe newer chips would do a bit more.

yes, Northwood should be overclockable since they fabricated with 0.13u tech, perform well with its 512k cache, and will perform still better, the Northwood B with its 533 MHz FSB! AthlonXP will have a lot of trouble caching up with that.

Thats why Thoroughbred will be here, 0.13u, possibly more cache and much more overclockable, maybe it will start at XP1800+ and hit at least XP3000+ or even XP3000++ (with faster FSB)

BTW that 2500 must be the XP rating, that is full 2 GHz core speed of the XP chip. havent been acheived anywhere officially, maybe this guy did it but cannot take it as official since it has no proof.

IIRC there are several 2ghz axp's on madonion.

I dont follow, yes people have 2ghz+ chips, lemme check madonion real quick.

the highest is 2074mhz. And it is only a few points behind a p4@2.7ghz.(but no videocard details so that dosent mean anything)

I've seen a few places claiming AXPs at 2 GHZ, and those all have been liquid nitrogen cooled. Wouldn't supprise me if they actualy existed.

an XP @ XP2500+ maybe
an XP @ 2500Mhz? impossible.

why? there is a website out there devoted to extreme overclocks. best of the best only.

and the best ive seen is some 2250Mhz from an XP1800+ using Liquid Nitrogen and 2.2V.

I saw some insane Finnish guy overclock a t-bird 1.33 to 2 gigs using liquid nitrogen. Interesting setup too.
