I just stuck a GF2 MX400 in my K6/2-450.. and i got 864 marks under 3Dmark 2001 (2000 didn't install properly)

anyboyd got any numbers to compare.. please don't tell me that your AXP 15 million with 9 GF3s and sweat bands gets **** marks.. I'm after comparable results.. OLDER style puters.. say sub 1.0Ghz.. no GF3 or R200 core cards.

g thanks

Hope these help.

K6-2 400 + Geforce2 GTS-V = 778 3DMarks
Duron 1007 mhz + Geforce256 SDR (150/210) = 2825
Duron 1007 mhz + Geforce2 GTS-V (205/340) = 3442

I had a Diamond Stealth 540 PCI on a K6-2 450 do something like 45 marks in 3D-Mark 2000, it couldn't run 2001. My PIII 933 system got around 2800 marks I think with the MX400 in 2001.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

RE: everybody.

so would you all say that with the old processors, the whole kaboodle is not even using the Video card to it potential.

I mean, phsstpok has that GF2 GTS and he went from 780 to 3400 marks just by doubling his CPU clock speed. Does that mean if I get the Duron 1GHz I was hoping for, my marks will go up to 3000 or so.

Ta for the feedback, this is exactly what i wanted to know.

Most interesting is Crashmans PIII-933 with MX400.. and 2800 marks I think.
that's what I'd be hoping for.

thanks again.

My card was overclocked to 220/190.

Heh to let you feel good of old times, my old P2 350 with Voodoo 3 2000, did 1077 pts in 3d Mark 2000. I assume many tests were also skipped...!

how is that possible.. my Asus Tweak utility only let's me overclock to 185/175 or something.

but I do have a fan.. I didn't notice nay difference running the GPU faster, or its RAM faster. meaning, my 3Dmarks didn't move much.

I used Coolbits on driver revision 6.31

PIII 750Mhz (825Mhz OCed)
384Mb SDRAM
GeForce2 MX400 (OCed to 220Core/210memory)
FSB overclocked from 100Mhz to 110Mhz

3DMark2001: ~2750 points

Sorry, I don't want to mislead you. On my 1007mhz Duron system both my cards were overclocked. The approximate scores for stock speeds were 2100, Geforce256 SDR, and 2900 for the Geforce2 GTS-V (at least to the best of my memory). A stock Geforce2 MX400 will perform closer to the Geforce256 SDR than the Geforce2 GTS-V.

Actually, I upgraded to the Duron while I still was using the Geforce256 SDR but I didn't save a score for that card with the K6-2. Later when I got the GTS-V card I was curious and tested it with the K6-2. The K6-2 is unable to keep up with either card. Overclocking the video cards didn't improve scores on that machine

Checkout the Madonion site and use ORB, Online Results Browser. It will give you an idea of what is possible with various videocard/CPU combinations. The top scorers are always overclocked video cards.

but what we're saying is that by ramping my CPU up from a 450MHz dog to something like a Duron 1GHz I can *nearly* triple my 3D performance.. (ie 3 times 860 is only 2600 or so, which seems perfectly reasonable based on yuor scores.)

that is very weird.. does the CPU in my case, actually slow down the video card??

interesting -> when i tried Software rendering on the K6/2-450 I got 440 marks... I expected worse.

My sons is a P2 330 with ATI rage fury ,it gets aroung the 500 points in 2001.
And my web server at home is a Duron800 with Gf MX it gets around the 1800 points.

The faster a computer is, the faster it will reach a crashed state

The CPU can be the limiting factor. If the CPU is fast enough then the videocard becomes the limiting factor. Take my Geforce2 GTS-V, for instance. On the K6-2 system it scored 778 3DMarks. Move up to a Duron at 1007 mhz and it scored 3442, big jump in performance. However, when I pair the same video card with a Tbird 1.0 @ 1.5 ghz (150*10) my score only increased to only 4047. That's about 50% increase in processor clockspeed but only a 15% increase in the benchmark score. Clearly, the video card is holding back performance here.

quicherbichin!!
my current system(Dell Inspiron laptop) only has 688 3D marks... lol
truely sad...
700mhz PIII, ATI Rage M4 32meg... guess why my score is low...
